Radio Flyer toys have evolved since their humble beginnings in 1917 when Antonio Pasin designed and built his first wood wagons in a rented one room workshop. By 1923 Pasin had created the Liberty Coaster Manufacturing, Co. named after the Statue of Liberty which welcomed the Italian immigrant to the United States; the land of opportunity.
Antonio had been watching his wagons touch the imaginations of children across America but realized handcrafting wagons had limitations, so he turned to the automobile industry for ideas and inspiration for mass-production. Here he found his solution; manufacturing his children’s wagons from metal using a technique known as metal stamping. Using this technique he would be able to pursue his dream of creating the first Radio Flyer wagon “For every boy. For every girl.”
In 1930, Antonio changed the name of his company to Radio Steel and Manufacturing and named his metal wagons “Radio Flyer” after the Italian immigrant Guglielmo Marconi who invented the radio; and Antonio’s own wonderment of flight.
Radio Flyer toys have evolved over the decades from the simple classic red wagon of the early 1900′s into an entire line of children’s toys including ride-ons and push-arounds.
